Moral Obscenity EP

It’s good to see Liverpool, England-based death metal act Trench Foot back so soon after the excellent Sacrificial Gore EP last year.
Trench Foot is the brainchild of Joe Bradley and this latest EP coughs up three typically gruesome cuts. The outing begins with ‘Septic Experiments’, which certainly provides a soundtrack to the primitive cover art which looks like something I’d have drawn back in 1987… when I was 13.
Trench Foot provides chunky, catchy rhythms doused in morbidity whereby slower, flashier levels are spliced with speedy drum programming and the expected guttural barks. “Do you wanna know what happens to an eyeball gets punctured?” asks the guy in the film sample that leads us into the depths of ‘Switchblade Slaughter’. “Have you got any idea how much blood jets out of a guys neck when his throat’s been slit?”.
This track is another with an infectious and heavy groove which is simple in design yet hinting at a Floridian density as it moves effortlessly through the gory gears. It’s very much old school death metal – fast when necessary, yet mostly mid-tempo and dense.
Closing cut ‘Incinerated Alive’ rumbles nicely, never jarring and always remaining bass heavy yet fluid. And that’s what I like about Bradley’s style, he never tries to be clever, and by knowing his limits he’s able to craft fleshy tirades of wholesome putridity.
I’m hoping the next Trench Foot release will be a full-length, but for now Moral Obscenity is another deadly dose of UK death metal to clog the brains, slit the veins and block the drains. Damn, this country is currently producing some great death metal.
