NECROKINESIS
A Force Made Flesh

Self-released (2023)
Rating: 8/10

Recorded, mixed, mastered and produced by Michael Richards at Dublin’s Trackmix, one man Irish band Necrokinesis – the brainchild of Adrian Foley – knuckles down for a second full-length album.

If you don’t know Necrokinesis then I highly recommend A Force Made Flesh if you like the mix of death and thrash metal. This opus comes equipped with eight tracks which have a strong Teutonic thrash aggression. The razor riffs coupled with the vocal rasps are not a world away from latter day Sodom, Destruction etc. – scorching thrash but with a sniping edge. It’s more so of contemporary design with vintage flashes, but my favourite tracks on offer are the slower, menacing cuts.

‘Atonement’ is a mid-tempo chugger boasting a crushing riff and ‘The Hellbound Heart’ is equally monstrous in its weighty groove. A few of the faster tracks take more time to get into admittedly, but there is always plenty of variety within the steely folds of each song; for example, the interesting subtle changes in ‘The God You Kneel To’ and the persistent yet unusual melodies of moody instrumental ‘Long Cold Dark’.

A Force Made Flesh has such a brooding vibe throughout, even with the faster barrages of ‘Skin Them Alive’. In a sense, this is an extreme metal album that has everything; speed, catchiness, mood, atmosphere, aggression and mid-tempo execution.

Considering all the hype bands like Acid Reign, Xentrix and even Evile have received, it’s Necrokinesis who stand out from the crowd because this is precise, snarling thrash trying to inject something different and Adrian Foley should be commended on how he has fused together the melancholic with the moshing!.
