SILVERBONES
Brethren Of The Coast

Breaking their seven year silence, Italian metal clan Silverbones releases its second full-length platter that, just like label mates Blazon Stone, tends to worship at the altar of German pirates Running Wild. You’ll also hear flashes of Gravedigger, and so what you’re basically getting here is anthemic Teutonic steel, although it’s not always fun n’ games due to its aping.
The album features a number of energetic, galloping songs of a hearty nature that may prompt you to revisit the skulduggery of those Running Wild outings. So, while the unoriginal subject matter may grate, Brethren Of The Coast still packs a wallop, particularly on ‘Invincible Armada’ which is somewhat epic in stature. The axemen aren’t hesitant when it comes to delivering a scorching solo or a pile driving riff, and at times certain tracks drift into Judas Priest territory so you get streaking melodies and high energy fronted by Lorenzo Vincenzo Nocerino’s wails.
I do have to be in the mood for this type of metal, usually after a few tankards at ye olde local inn, and if you want further confirmation of the Running Wild obsession then pick up the cassette version of the album for a batch of cover renditions.
