WOUNDEAD
Festering Death (2024)

This is the debut offering from Woundead, an Italian trio who consist of J.V. Blood (vocals), A. Dawson (guitar and bass) and G. Drool (drums).

With vocals choked through a sack and hideous riffs of gunk, Festering Death is ten minutes of your life you’ll never get back. If you like filthy death metal, then look no further than the gory sediment spewed up by this two-song release.

Nasty riffs and gruff gasps make for a fetid listen that is surprisingly catchy. There’s no pace to speak of, just a rotten groove that plays out with a few mid-tempo powders that sort of mix a traditional doom nod with slow thrash.

I guess my biggest quibble here is that the vocals are too much of a blur, the sort of output that if released in 1990 would have suggested that the vocalist was too close to the tape recorder! Even so, Woundead is about as underground as it gets so order your mouldy demo cassette now.

For those of you interested, the Festering Death demo is available here.
