UNDERDOG
Rabies In Town
Mausoleum (1984)

This is the follow-up to the German band’s self-titled debut album of last year, and quite an improvement it is too.
Side one includes three Dio-like epics in ‘Nightmares’, ‘I Do It’ and the high speed frenzied ‘Needin’ Your Love’. However, for a title track ‘Rabies In Town’ is pretty appalling, although quite comical; a song all about biting ladies in the arse (sure to have Dave Reynolds frothing at the mouth!).
The closing cut on side one sees Underdog doing an Anthrax and taking a song out of the Alice Cooper songbook, though their version of ‘Under My Wheels’ is not a patch on the original.
‘Rock It On’ opens side two and is only really an average rocker. The same can be said of the Quiet Riot sounding ‘Hey You (I’m Gonna Tear You Down)’, ‘Goodbye Blue Sky’ and ‘We Like Rock’n’Roll’. ‘Too Late To Escape’ though is a different kettle of fish; a hard driving slice of metal sure to have the listener shaking violently from beginning to end.
Not a classic album by any means, but Rabies In Town is a good effort and well worth getting hold of.
