SEXTROW
Addicted To Rock
Self-released (2022)

There is a 80s glam metal flair about this debut full-length offering from Germany’s Sextrow, whether it’s via the cover art or the anthemic, fist-pumping metal on offer. If you like gang shouts on the chorus, driving steely rhythms and a swift vocal glide then there is no doubt that Addicted To Rock will appeal.
‘Looking For Trouble’ has a Skid Row sort of vibe fused with rather clichéd yet infectious lyrics. Vocalist Inglorious Ian has a nice clear tone and Raging Ray’s bass rattles nicely throughout. The twin axe team of Reckless Rob and Magic Marv keep their designs simple and fiery, but there are subtleties on offer too which makes up for the corny band member monikers and the at times cheese-ridden lyrics.
For those who like their rock to sizzle, ala AC/DC, you get the struttin’ ‘My Foxy Lady’ where drummer Sleazy Seth stamps with consistency, and then there is the chugging ‘Live It Out Loud’ and the simplistic tap of ‘Road Lover’ whereby the combo again drizzles the atmosphere in a sort of AC/DC plod entwined with a bluesy sway and infectious chorus.
At times the album drifts into an almost early 90s sleaze metal territory whereby bands were beginning to use their imagination more and explore other roads such as funk or even psychedelia, and although such diversity never fully comes to the fore here Sextrow keep the listener nodding along.
There is a degree of swagger to this opus, with other standout points being the groove-based ‘Catch A Ride’, the darker nature of ‘Children Of The Night’ and the robust title track with its ballsy drive. All in all, this is solid sleaze-laced debut that would not have been out of place in 1988.
