DEAD SOUL ALLIANCE
Spiralling To Lunacy

The band name has always reminded me of a wrestling troupe although musically Canada’s Dead Soul Alliance deliver a straight up death metal blast that brings occasional D-Beat devastation with an aggression, circa a deadlier classic Amorphis and Deeds Of Flesh.
Spiralling To Lunacy is the second full-length outing from this Ottawa, Ontario-based combo and is a concise, raging cacophony that rarely strays from its belligerence. ‘Products Of Pain’ is one of my favourite tunes on offer, where the streaking axe work and furnace of riffs and drums makes for quite a blizzard of brutality. The same could also be said for the frothing ‘Condemnation Through Fear’, but I also like the more pensive grinding of ‘New Normal Nihilist’ with its steady savagery.
Admittedly, Dead Soul Alliance isn’t the sort of band I regularly spin, but if you like a cross-section of brutality that takes in the above mentioned bands alongside the likes of Asphyx, Cannibal Corpse and some Swedish severity then pick this one up.
