DARKLON
The Redeemer
No Remorse (2023)

Greece has produced some fantastic heavy metal bands over the last few years and Athens-based combo Darklon is another outfit you can add to the list. The Redeemer is the second full-length outing from the guys and it will appeal to anyone who has a taste for heavy metal of a rugged yet classic nature.
At times Darklon veer into thrashy and power metal territory, but I’m reminded of various bands such as Metal Church, Meliah Rage, Iced Earth, Judas Priest, Omen and Jag Panzer. The vocals of Nikos Migus A. have that untamed quality; a powerhouse behind the mic, he steers this hefty ship aided by lethal riffs, pounding percussion and the stony bass of Savvas Glikis.
A lot of modern metal often tends to feel mechanical, but with Darklon there is that dark, ominous brooding air throughout what is essentially straight up metal whether it be the chugging menace of the title track, the anthemic and mid-tempo power of ‘Iron Glory’ and my favourite tune ‘Way Back Home’ with its aggression.
Flashes of Iron Maiden, flashes of Savatage, it’s all here – solid, consistent and at times melancholic power metal dripping with dark undertones. Rich, rewarding and rollicking in equal measure.
