ABOLISH
…From The Depths

F.D.A. Records (2023)
Rating: 8/10

Led by Lucy Ferra, the front woman for Inhuman Depravity, Turkish death metallers Abolish channel the mould-coated old school style of death metal for their impressive debut full-length album …From The Depths.

When ‘Pervert Doctrine Divine’ opens up proceedings it is obvious that the mouldy atmosphere will appeal to anyone with a penchant for morbid death metal, ranging from Autopsy to Cerebral Rot. Those doomy excursions mean that Abolish scrapes together a number of macabre horizons whereby even faster options are coated in a gloomy brutality. There are moments of stinking melody but for the most part this is downright nasty in structure and at times brings to mind the miserable stodge of Sedimentum.

Abolish is no stranger to a gnashing filthiness – ‘Ruins Of Empire’ being a prime example – but within the folds of this opus that dank and fetid atmosphere remains as the likes of ‘Venomous Saints’ constructs a more of foggy, dragging melancholy. The ideas here are quite simple but it works for the 44 minutes just due to the band’s understanding of what makes death metal so heavy, unclean and brutal.
