ABYSMAL LORD
Bestiary Of Immortal Hunger
Hells Headbangers (2022)

Prepare thyself for more anti-Christian babbling as New Orleans, Louisiana-based Abysmal Lord unleash their third full-length album since forming in the dark past.
Anyone still chilled to the bone by the recent cold weather can prop themselves up in front of this record and very quickly be scorched by the flames as the trio spits out a horrific batch of hellish anthems that drip with dank, clanking atmosphere. Very much entrenched in the folklore of bands such as Beherit, Bestiary Of Immortal Hunger acts as a rather harrowing and bestial experience that annihilates the listener with one swoop of its cruel talons.
Arguably 2022’s most devastating heap of surging black / death, this album demands that you become one with the face-melting fires as ‘Satanic Return’ quite literally demolishes all in its wake as a belching expression of extreme metal. Drums, bass and guitar just hammer; dragged from the frying pan into the fire by the squelching, barking vocal tirades.
This is not metal for the faint of heart and it’s the sort of destructive evil that only the most hardcore and underground followers will appreciate. All the tracks are delivered as short, snappy bursts of white hot hear. ‘Glowing Baphomet’ is a vile, relentless clatter as is the brutal title track, even with its slower, doomier lumbers.
The fuzzy riff of ‘Ultra Expulser’ drags you into an oil pit of bubbling, boiling blood but those faster, aggressive rushes are only a moment away, writhing and leering from the shadows. The appalling percussive tirade on ‘Towering Leviathan’ is a despicable wonder to behold, but it’s no match for the hideous slurps of ‘Antisemen Of Ceremonial Pseudochrist’ whereby the vocals become terrifying demented yaps and the drums a rusty haze of madness.
This is a festering well of satanic noise and a truly vicious way to not only end 2022 but to bring in the New Year.
