BURN

The first album from a young Swedish band and a fine debut it is too. From the commercial Van Halen-ish ‘Good Or Evil’ to the hyper frenzied speed of ‘Get Lost’, Burn have delivered a well balanced ten-track metal album.
Generally, the band remind me a lot of early Tygers Of Pan Tang. None too surprising when you learn that Burn were once known as Spellbound, which was of course the title of said band’s second album.
In Tom Oakland (aka Tomas Eklund) the Swedes have a powerful vocalist who comes across like a menacing Dave Lee Roth, especially on the superb opening track ‘Gates Of Hell’.
Other highlights include ‘The Rebel’, ‘Burn In Fire’ and the instrumental ‘Fata Morgana’, with instant comparisons here to Iron Maiden’s ‘Genghis Khan’, only, dare I say it, better!
Admittedly the production could be far superior, but as I said, a fine debut from a very talented band and certainly one to look out for.
