DAISY CUTTER
Daisy Cutter

Self-released (2024)
Rating: 7/10

These Munich, Germany-based monsters formed a decade ago, so it comes as quite the surprise that the debut release from the band should emerge now. Deriving their name from a destructive bomb, I somewhat expected this combo to act as a rather colourless Teutonic force, but instead what you get is a strong Entombed vibe which emerges from the potent yet distorted buzzsaw riffage.

Daisy Cutter, in spite of their talent, does tend to drift towards a rather generic attack at times with a number of songs bleeding into one another and lacking any sort of identity outside of the death n’ roll premise. However, it’s all very infectious and rabid as from the off one is battered by ‘No Fuckin’ Respect’, ‘Deadeye’ and namesake track ‘Daisy Cutter’. Damn, the band even has a song called ‘Hollow Man’ which, incidentally, is the album’s finest moment simply because it refrains from the overused Entombed style. Instead, we get treated to a rather slow and trudging heap of grinding death layered with raw vocal chops. ‘Dead Man’s Trail’ adopts equal menace and the drumming here, as with the rest of the album, is impressive.

It’s a shame there isn’t a great deal of variety from Daisy Cutter, but obviously they’ve set out with one aim and that’s to shred the ears and there is certainly enough power on offer here to get the heads banging and tanks rolling. However, its shelf life may be limited due to its formulaic designs.
