HORRID SIGHT
Evil Made Flesh

Self-released (2022)
Rating: 8/10

Rising from Mexico City, Horrid Sight are the latest upstarts to delve into the death / thrash pool. These youngsters – Charlie Zambrano (vocals and bass), Néstor Ledesma (guitar and backing vocals) and Rafael Carranza (drums) – have already released two EPs this year so I was interested to see and hear this full-length offering.

The four tracks from the two EPs do appear here, but this is more than just a compilation. Evil Made Flesh provides some serious battery throughout as the trio delivers just over 40 minutes of twisted aggression that begins life with the simmering aesthetics of the bruising title track which comes complete with dehydrated vocal rasps and devastating riffage.

There is a marrying here of old school and newer styles, while production is crisp which allows the instruments to breath although I’d have much preferred a more dank feel. Even so, the soloing rips throughout, as does the hefty percussive slaps. If you like speeding death / thrash then the thorny, abrasive twists of tracks such as ‘Sunk Ship’, ‘Even Want’ and ‘Dark Hallucination’ will not disappoint.

Evil Made Flesh is one of the most aggressive and hostile albums you’ll hear this year, with only ‘Somber Dust’ bringing any sort of respite with its brooding, mid-paced atmosphere and nuances. But there’s never any escape from this clean and concise record which is epitomised by the jarring twists of a track such as ‘World Of Slime’. Sneering, arrogant and scathing extreme metal is very much the order of the day here.
