KÖRGULL THE EXTERMINATOR
Built To Kill

Körgull The Exterminator is a band that’s difficult to dislike. Their brand of spiky thrash has entertained me since 2009 and it’s no real shock that their ripping style and thorny attitude continues on this latest offering. Lilith Necrobitch is still swallowing razor blades for breakfast while drummer Joe Bastard smashes his scrapyard of a kit with lead pipes.
Not many bands express a fury like these Spaniards. All of their releases boast primitive nuances whether in the molten bass line rattles or the scathing axe work. Opener ‘The Devil’s Sea’ is a bestial inferno of wiry speed, a spitting white knuckle ride shedding rust, and those aesthetics, as expected, continue throughout. ‘Existential Risk’ rumbles like a washing machine in overdrive, billowing toxic smoke and abrasively churning until the point of combustion.
The volatile combo takes blackened speed metal to its limit with those wicked guitar lashes from Mark Wild and 2019 recruit Ghorth. Together they construct those dissonant and jarring rhythms still inspired by those vintage Voivod landscapes where jutting angles penetrate flesh and a grey gauze descends like a metallic curtain.
The title track burns to the touch; a white hot smorgasbord of clanking, gnashing segments pierced by Lilith’s endearing squeals. The steaming fury of ‘Exterminator’, the brief yet hellish torrent of ‘Death To Human Race’ and the galloping junk of ‘Ritual Suicide’, everything constructed here is a rustbucket cacophony that expires at the 41 minute mark like a crazed mechanical wasp zapped by its own sting.
This is a frenzied return from a band which proves the old adage that speed does kill.
