M.T.G.
Lobotomized

Self-released (2023)
Rating: 6.5/10

I don’t know a great deal about these Italian thrashers and there are no real surprises within the confines of the band’s debut full-length album, Lobotomized. It’s a solid and concise eight-track affair that does suffer at times from a rather mechanical feel, and the vocals of drummer Fabio “Zeg” Zago are your rather standard confrontational shouts which are given extra beef by the numerous gang chants.

M.T.G. seems to be more of a force when they slow things down, with one example being ‘The Last Call’ with its infectious chugging and solid lead work. Thankfully, there are riffs aplenty on this opus, some of which have a Slayer vibe although at times they do suffer from repetition. Even so, this can be quite a catchy little record that comes equipped with a punchy bass courtesy of Leonardo “Leo” Magon.

Of the selection of tunes on offer the immediate standouts for me are ‘Slavery & Abuses’ with its varying approaches, and ‘Violent Holocaust’ which speaks for itself but features a crisp Bay Area chug. For me, Lobotomized is generic thrash, but that doesn’t mean it should be overlooked, especially if you like this sort of crunch.
