Finnish thrash is on the menu here with the debut full-length album from Tampere-based combo Radux. What you get here is eight speedy tracks, but sadly let down by hysterical vocal yaps courtesy of bassist Juho Vaarala. The closest comparison to be made is with Nuclear Assault’s John Connelly, but Vaarala takes his duties a step too far and it’s such a shame because musically this is some volatile thrash awash with razor sharp axework and feisty percussion.
Each track here boasts such energy; ‘Ceasing To Exist’ has a punky vibe, ‘Atomic Fear’ a striking busyness, and ‘Radioactive Dawn’ a tirade of drums. This is very good thrash, it’s just that the vocals all too quickly start to grate and become an unhealthy distraction. Having said, there are many thrash fans out there who like this style of hyper high vocal, so if you can imagine John Connelly with his scrotum in a vice then that’s what you will get.
It’s Going To Be A Great Day is 30 minutes of nifty, tight speed metal that hits like a whirling dervish but makes little impact. Favourite tracks, more so musically, are ‘Evacuate Earth’ with its wild solo, and ‘Instinct Of Survival’ with its steely bass backbone.
