REINCARNATED

I never saw this coming, this being the debut full-length album from Thailand’s Reincarnated. This is some seriously heavyweight death / doom blessed with doomy fringes, but for the most part it has an abysmal death metal churn to its nature.
This foul five-track release is the product of five guys, namely vocalist NB, guitarists Patiwat and Saran, bassist Chester, and drummer Thinnarat. The quintet knows how to flay skin, bludgeon innards and crush bones because Of Boötes Void Death Spell is one of the year’s heaviest releases. And this is epitomised by the aching, dragging opener ‘Ophiuchus Crypt’ which oozes like a slug coated in mud, and even when it picks up “pace”, by the four-minute mark, it’s still just a morbid heave of dread laced with an eerie guitar solo that squirms in abysmal fashion.
This is classy, suffocating death / doom of the highest, darkest order. There’s versatility on the cold rush of ‘Quasar God Oration’, but it still resorts to that deep, murky rolling even when the percussion spikes the gloom with flurries of cavernous decay. Meanwhile, ‘Proxima Hibernation’ confirms the freeze in spite of that wretched, damp air infecting the lungs.
I’d have a tendency to slot this horrid, yawning expression alongside the work of, say, UK gloomsters Grave Miasma. It has that similar rank air of evil and obscurity, but for me Reincarnated is heavier, thicker and more sinister, even with the more straight-laced death / doom designs such as ‘Triumphant Dead Comet’. But the vast humid walls it constructs are impenetrable monoliths that in esoteric fashion flash with cosmic solos and devastating drum patterns.
I just love albums where everything feels so thick and weighty to the point of claustrophobia and eventual suffocation, and I really don’t think you’ll find a darker, more encroaching 30 minutes of death / doom this year.
