SINTAGE
Paralyzing Chains

High Roller (2023)
Rating: 7/10

After a decent EP – The Sign – which was released in 2021, German rockers Sintage lets loose a lethal debut full-length album that channels the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal alongside bands such as fellow countrymen Running Wild. Rollicking and galloping anthems abound with this affair that strikes not only from its high energy tunes but also its cover artwork.

Although Sintage aren’t out of the ordinary they still march headlong as a heavy metal army equipped with solid production and steely songs that run in rampant fashion. The album is epitomised by opening juggernaut ‘Midnight Evil’ which speeds and rattles like a hyper Iron Maiden as frontman Randy provides a no frills yet eager snap.

Admittedly the album has no real deviation with only ‘Rocking Hard’ lowers its tempo while the rest of the tracks all trundle in similar fashion, but they do remain hard, robust and energetically delivered metal tracks that wouldn’t seem out of place in 1986. The likes of ‘Venom’, ‘Wild Dogs’ and ‘Blazing Desaster’ all boast that familiar yet bruising assault built upon the sturdy foundation of drummer Andre.

Paralyzing Chains is simply tight, pacey heavy metal that was common in the golden era but is still much needed now as so many bands succumb to corporate gloss and diluted commercialism. Sintage rocks hard.
