STEEL MACHINE
Deliverer Of Sin

Self-released (2025)
Rating: 6/10

After a number of demos and two EPs, Finnish trio Steel Machine finally pumps out a debut full-length album. With a line-up of Timo Takala (vocals/guitar), Sebastian Bergman (bass) and Juha Forsström (drums), the band hit the ground running with ‘Savage’, a high energy pacey rocker bristling with a thrash snarl and gasoline drool. It’s relatively standard, unremarkable grease ball metal fused together by an array of wires which stem from influences such as Motörhead.

I hope Steel Machine proves me wrong, but I don’t see this sort of heavy metal garnering much attention in an over-crowded genre. Even so, with their brash style Steel Machine are extremely entertaining as a first on the bill act to get the stiff crowd warmed up.

The likes of ‘Wild Laughter’ boast an oily gallop straight from the heart of the metallic 80s. One begins to envisage a revved up motorcycle hitting the road and perched upon its leather seat and equally leathery speed demon. Maybe we could call this biker metal or barroom thrash because the tone here is snarly enough, especially on ‘The Stalker’ with its off kilter New Wave Of British Heavy Metal vibe.

Other mentionable numbers are ‘Chariot’, which reminds me of a more reckless and looser Iron Maiden, ‘Burn My Fuse’, which features some excellent axe work, and my personal favourite ‘Mercy Of The Gods’, which begins like a Dead Kennedys track before jolting into something akin to Venom.

There’s certainly enough grit and determination on show here, but band’s nowadays can’t get through on just that. The harsh reality is that Deliverer Of Sin is mediocre with no real bark, let alone bite.
