CORPUS OFFAL
Demo 2024

It came as quite a shock that one of my favourite death metal acts, Cerebral Rot, had split, but Corpus Offal is a rather instant result of the American band dissolving and with this demo the grimness continues. Consisting of ex-Cerebral Rot members Ian Schwab (vocals and guitar) and Clyle Lindstrom (guitar), as well as bassist Jason Sachs (ex-Demoncy) drummer Jesse Shreibman (Bell Witch / Autophagy), Corpus Offal brings a brace of songs that are not too far removed from the Cerebral Rot slop.

It’s hard to judge any new band based on two songs but they do provide an ideal teaser for what’s to come with Corpus Offal’s debut full-length album, which is due in 2024. Both ‘Ripened Psychosis’ and ‘Gorging Gastric Decedent’ feature the usual swampy bludgeoning that is delivered in groggy yet catchy fashion. Putrid riffs, quagmire bass lines, fetid drums and dismal vocalisations ensure that a macabre atmosphere is channelled.

There are no real surprises with this demo and Corpus Offal is no doubt testing the waters, but I’m sure that anything the band releases will receive a positive reception.
