In 2022 I raved about the debut full-length outing – First Contact – from this intriguing Providence, Rhode Island-based act so I’m glad they’ve returned with this new four-song EP. Main man Dylan Kulpa (vocals, guitar and bass) is joined by drummer Evan White and together they have created another sublime piece that mixes Iron Maiden with Thin Lizzy to result in something so fluid in its nature.
As the seven minute opening title track proves, this is a band that effortlessly constructs simple yet catchy passages that fizz with an air of nostalgia. The spine is very much of a Thin Lizzy design mixed with a New Wave Of British Heavy Metal grit, especially in the organic vocal styles. Some of the galloping segments bring Iron Maiden to mind and the drums add extra tumbles of steel. However, with ‘Daylight’ the band shifts gears by bring pace and fire.
If Dave Grohl released something like this the world would be salivating and yet for bands like Demon Chrome little recognition will come. Even so, Kulpa knows how to rock and as the melodious ‘Fire In The Brain’ proves, there’s just something so joyous yet sincere about Demon Chrome. This is straight up driving rock ‘n’ roll that sticks to the basics, and yet somehow the whole damn thing glimmers and enchants right down to the earnest ballad ‘Oh Joan’. It’s good to see and hear Dylan Kulpa again with another batch of strong, melodic heavy rockin’ numbers.
