EMASCULATOR
The Disfigured And The Divine EP

New Standard Elite (2024)
Rating: 7/10

Brutal death metal is the order of the day here from this International (Czechia / USA) female combo. If you’re a fan of the likes of Dying Fetus, Suffocation, Cryptopsy and Deeds Of Flesh, then you’ll enjoy the dynamics displayed here; 21 minutes of savagely crafted death metal led by the ferocious vocals of Mallika Sundaramurthy (ex-Abnormality) who is also responsible for the striking cover artwork of this seven-track debut EP.

Emasculator dish out a familiar yet pulverising set of songs riddled with blast beats and demented riffs resulting in such devastating compositions as ‘In Resplendent Terror’, which features some nice, chunky mid-tempo catchiness too.

The band still manages tweaks of melody within the framework of hostility. ‘Eradication Of The Asuras’ – with an interesting accompanying music video – is as equally bruising, hardened by the belligerent drum patterns of Cierra White. As the EP shifts at a rate of knots I hear flickers of Cerebral Bore and dashes of Devourment, especially on ‘Supreme Void Of Acephalous Being’ with the ripping axe work and slick drums.

Also of note is the production which gets the balance right so as not to give the sound too much of a gloss, but if you like late 90s and early 00s brutal death metal then pick this up.
