EYEMASTER
Conjuration Of Flesh EP

Caligari / Lycanthropic Chants (2023)
Rating: 8/10

Although the Swedish death metal scene continues to spawn a thousand rip offs, German act Eyemaster actually succeeds in its buzzsaw savagery. Emerging two years after a strong two-song demo, Conjuration Of Flesh not only boasts a distinctive slab of cover art but also drives home some seriously gnarly riffs.

Rampant death n’ roll abounds here for four catchy yet gritty tracks (the two songs from the demo are also included on the CD version as bonus tracks) which race by in classic Entombed design. Opener ‘Fractured And Distorted Reflections Of A World In Grief’ may not sound simple but musically it’s a rollicking gift led by cavernous, phlegm-caked vocals and drums which provide a galloping thud.

‘A Pale Reflection Stares Embodied By An Empty Gaze’ is as equally nonsensical in title but riveting with its grinding bass groove and diabolical shifts. It’s not mere generic Swedish aping though, just check out the groove of ‘Promise End In Cruel Demise’ and the hyper attack of closer ‘Transcend Into The Void (Conjuration Of Flesh)’, a brace of classy yet aggressive tracks drilled with infectious dynamics.

There is something so compelling about this pungent groovefest and I strongly recommend you hop on over to the label store and grab your copy… NOW!
