FUNERAL THIRST
Galvanized In Blood EP
Self-released (2022)

New Hampshire is the setting for the debut EP from another promising death metal entourage, Funeral Thirst. The four tracks on offer here bombard you in heavyweight fashion, but above all this is some stylish and catchy death metal with plenty of atmosphere and comes drenched in a very deep and grisly tone.
‘Turned To Dust’ kicks thing off and immediately we are trampled by the hefty riffage. However, these guys also throw bursts of speed into the mix too, so what you get as an end result is a mid-90s style of death metal as streaks of melody are accessed. ‘Hanged’ is a prime example as to how this quartet provides melodious passages within its framework of brutality; I’m always a sucker for a juggernaut riff and Galvanized In Blood is running amok with such crushing displays.
The title track remains mostly mid-paced but it’s the highlight of this EP; steadily it cruises but soon becomes riddled with blast beats thanks to Schyler Waychoff’s hammering, and by the time ‘Woodland Sacrifice’ closes things up you’re left feeling suffocated by the weight.
Galvanized In Blood is a reliable source when it comes to heavyweight, mid-paced death metal that at times nods towards a Scandinavian style of skin-shredding.
