GHOUL
Noxious Concoctions EP

It’s crazy to think that the last Ghoul album, Dungeon Bastards, emerged in 2016, so to an extent this EP just isn’t enough. Even so, with Noxious Concoctions the death-thrash terrors have returned from the grave with a solid slab of salivating gore-soaked metal.
These crazy California-based characters are the musical equivalent to watching a splatter movie; buckets of blood, a haul of murder weapons, demented killers but drippings of cheese and humour too. After a spooky intro ‘The Eyes Of The Witch’ chugs like a crusty Anthrax awash with a ripping death-thrash ethos that runs like a jagged spine throughout, even with the cover rendition of Funerot’s ‘1-900-DTH-LINE’.
Everything about the EP has that manic, fun-filled thrash excitement and energy where a crossover sensibility is never far away as gang chants fuse with scorching leads and the maniacal percussion of Fermentor. ‘Ratlicker’ chugs with such a mid-tempo groove, as does ‘Shotgun Gulch’, although frenzy is never far away on what is essentially a monster mash of maddening thrash. A new album can’t come soon enough from these masked marauders of metal mayhem.
