HAUNTED CRUCIFIX
Purple Goat EP
Self-released (2023)

What we have here is a rather compelling oddity from a Greek chap named Leviathan (Adventum Diaboli / Unreality In One’s Self) who has followed on from the 2021 Booze Witch full-length with this new five-track EP.
Purple Goat is, to put it simply, a stoner / doom instrumental release which somewhat labours due to its overall lack of variety as evidenced from opening plodder ‘Heretic Haze’. And by the time you reach closer ‘Altar Of Black Magick’ you’ll be bemused as to what this could have been with a commanding vocalist.
There are some decent psychedelic moments – again I refer to the lazy drawl of ‘Altar Of Black Magick’ and the oozing ‘Sexorcism’ with its rattling bass and general satanic-a-go-go slo-mo appeal – but Purple Goat very quickly becomes background music to a night filled with watching 1970s occult movies and that’s a real shame because there is a lot of promise with some of those esoteric riffs, but too much repetition for the stoned masses.
