Jacob Atut (vocals and guitar), Hector Santos (guitar), Esteban Tevenal (bass) and Jack Newton (drums) are the four men behind the mask of Morbidity, a Chicago, Illinois-based death metal combo that has just issued their debut six-song EP, Malignant Necropsy.

Don’t expect a genre-altering release but instead enjoy it for what it is, a lump of stodge built upon grotesque riffs and ruptured oesophagus vocals. It’s your standard, mediocre composition but will still appeal to those who like the stench of damp.

Six tracks are spewed forth, all them boasting that maniacal Autopsy vibe, especially in the deranged slurps from Jacob Atut. Musically, it’s as equally frenzied with feverish fuzz lining the grinding riffs as evidenced on the opening ‘Engulfed In Parasites’.

Morbidity operates mostly at pace, the rabid drums on ‘Convulsing In The Tomb’ a prime example of how rabid this release gets. However, there are some grisly mid-tempo passages too, such as with parts of ‘Scorching Decay’, and there are even a few blackened streaks in some of the chords alongside a Swedish buzz saw groove. As I said earlier, this is not mind boggling and is, like a lot of death metal now, a pastiche of pus, but it is entertaining madness nonetheless.
