Nefastus EP

Formosa, Argentina-based four-piece Nefastus present their debut EP which boasts five tracks of brutal death metal.
Although extreme in its output, this band is a big fan of melody. Hear a track like ‘Eagle Of Rage’ and appreciate the traditional metal lope made all the more meaty by Ives Lescano’s drums. Elsewhere, ‘Scum’ is far more belligerent; a battering ram of death metal best suited to the mid-to-late 90s and onwards.
There is variety here, of that there is no doubt, as ‘Embodiment’ begins with a thrashy assault and continues its style of aggression, but for me it’s the two tracks at the end which entertains the most. ‘Psychopath’ again shows the versatility and diversity; the scathing vocals and abrasive guitar tone coupled with that driving bass and hectic percussion hints toward a technicality. Closer ‘Endless Reflection’ offers technical twists too as mid-tempo arrangements flirt with a dense wall of brutality.
There is barrage aplenty on this debut outing from a band with a knack for the bludgeoning but also the intricate and catchy.
