PUSTULENT
Purulent Flesh Infection EP

Iron Fortress (2024)
Rating: 7.5/10

Kicking off with a sample from Lucio Fulci’s 1981 classic horror film House By The Cemetery, Purulent Flesh Infection is the debut release from Brazilian death metal dude Leandro, also known for his work with Cadaveric Mutation.

As I anticipated, this five-track EP is a grisly affair, somewhat typical of what the brilliant Iron Fortress label is puking out. With congealed mouldy riffs, murky production and vocals straight from the slime bath of slurping, you could throw this in a septic tank alongside the likes of Leprophiliac and Sequestrum and you’ve got yourself a vile cocktail consisting of some of the most repulsive riffs I’ve heard since Carcass vomited themselves onto the scene.

Although only ten minutes in length, Purulent Flesh Infection exists like a steady yet lumpy stream of grime as Leandro traipses in heavy, blood-soaked boots through a bog of ooze as ‘Butchered Remains’ and ‘Necrophile Rites’ mash sick, blusters and slow grinding mulch. Death metal doesn’t get any soupier as the gnashing riffs of ‘Fetid Putrescence’, the whole composition a festering bucket of delicious slop. Iron Fortress brings the filth once again.
