SACRIFICIAL MERCY
Misanthropic Disposition EP
Self-released (2023)

When I slapped this EP on I was immediately under the impression that this violent five-song affair was some kind of obscure South American oddity. It’s primitive nature, it’s scowling vocal rasps and general feel of black thrash had me convinced it was some sort of Brazilian indie release, but lo and behold Sacrificial Mercy hails from Surrey, British Columbia in Canada, so there was a surprise.
Misanthropic Disposition spits a lot of venom, and while the design is very much – according to the band anyway – a crossover thrash affair, the vocals of Geory Tinga are certainly vicious and there is a strong yet raw punky theme throughout as the quintet coughs out ‘Sacrificial Mercy’, ‘Black Blood’, ‘No End In Sight’, ‘Modern Day Slave’ and ‘Fuck You’.
Even so, this is a rather refreshing release due to its vigour and old school, underground values, and the way the guys drift effortlessly between slower, melodic grooves (‘Black Blood’) before shifting into some truly evil and hostile speed (‘No End In Sight’) is very impressive. So, if you like harsh, grim black thrash but with an almost streetwise muscularity and hardcore slant then strap in for this whirlwind.
