STEEL NIGHT
Last Warrior EP

With cover art that’s not too far removed from the halcyon days of He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe, Last Warrior is a new three-track EP from Mexican metalheads Steel Night. What you get here is some glorious and galloping mid-80s inspired metal from members Jahaziel Rangel (vocals), Raúl Dominguez (guitar), Alberto DeMartini (guitar), Marco De Luna (bass) and Aldo Saucedo (drums), who released their debut full-length, Fight Till The End, in 2019.
This style of metal has become standard practice for many bands nowadays, but some do it better than others. Steel Night succeeds for the most part with its throwback dashes, but for me it’s the darker strains of ‘I’m The Evil’ which really stand out. This mid-paced entity rumbles with sinister aplomb as the solid spine of percussion holds the framework together to allow the melodious solos to toy with the ears. Final track ‘In The Fire’ is a demo cut which draws comparisons with Iron Maiden but boasting extra zip.
There is nothing fancy here from Steel Night, just strong mid-range metal that seems happy to loiter in the depths of the lower leagues.
