Malcolm, along with Angus, was the founder and creator of AC/DC. With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band. As a guitarist, songwriter and visionary he was a perfectionist and a unique man.

“He always stuck to his guns and did and said exactly what he wanted. He took great pride in all that he endeavoured. His loyalty to the fans was unsurpassed.

“As his brother it is hard to express in words what he has meant to me during my life, the bond we had was unique and very special. He leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever. Malcolm, job well done.”

Malcolm Mitchell Young was born on January 6th, 1953 in Glasgow, Scotland, his family emigrating to Australia in 1963.

A temporary leave of absence to receive treatment for dementia was announced for Malcolm in April 2014, prior to retiring permanently in September of that year. Malcolm was replaced by nephew Stevie for AC/DC’s tour to promote Rock Or Bust, the son of oldest brother Stephen. Stevie previously filled in for Malcolm during the 1988 Blow Up Your Video world tour, when the axeman was struggling with alcohol issues.

Malcolm’s swansong live performance with AC/DC was a June 2010 concert in Bilbao, Spain as part of a world tour in support of 2008’s Black Ice.

The funeral service for Malcolm Young was held at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney, Australia on November 28th, 2017.
