Fort Collins, Colorado-based melodic death metal band Allegaeon have filmed a music video for the track ‘Called Home’. Directed by Kyle Lamar (Digital Myle), the clip can be viewed below.
Speaking about the song and video, guitarist Greg Burgess said: “Over the last few years people around the world have experienced immeasurable loss and grief. This song and this video is a representation of a personal experience. By sharing this story we hope that it brings some sense of peace to anyone who has shared in a similar experience, and to possibly throw a lifeline to someone out there who may be suffering. You are not alone.”
Allegaeon issued sixth full-length studio album Damnum on February 25th, 2022 through Metal Blade Records.
The outing can be streamed in its entirety via YouTube below.
Damnum’s lyrical content centres upon processing sadness, anger, grief, and loneliness. “My hope with these lyrics is to have them be relatable to listeners and show them that they’re not alone when they’re experiencing the gamut of negative emotions – someone else is out there feeling the same way,” commented frontman Riley McShane.
Damnum marks the first Allegaeon album to feature drummer Jeff Saltzman, who joined the band’s ranks in 2021 – replacing Brandon Park following a seven-year tenure. “This is really the first record where the drummer has written all their parts, instead of us guitar players programming a beat and having our drummer just write the fills,” guitarist Greg Burgess stated.
“Pairing him with our bass player Brandon Michael, we have a rhythm section that can keep up with the level of musicality and proficiency the guitars have always brought to the table,” McShane added.
Recording took place at Flatline Audio Studio in Denver, Colorado with longtime producer Dave Otero, once again. For the first occasion, all members were present in the studio for the entire duration of tracking. “There was a lot more creative input coming from all directions on every song, and while it was stressful at times to sort through the noise of everyone’s ideas, I think it ultimately added something wholly unique to this album in comparison to any other in the Allegaeon catalogue,” Burgess concluded.
The track listing is as follows:
