German power metal group Avantasia, spearheaded by Edguy frontman Tobias Sammet, have released an official lyric video for the track ‘Alchemy’. Featuring guest vocals from former Queensrÿche frontman Geoff Tate, the clip can be viewed below.
Speaking about the song, Tobias Sammet stated: “When I wrote ‘Alchemy’ I had no one but Geoff Tate in mind. He is one of the most influential singers in the history of melodic metal and I have always adored albums like Queensrÿche’s Rage For Order and Operation Mindcrime. And that type of singing was exactly what I imagined to hear in Avantasia. When we were in the studio there was magic in the air, Geoff delivered and even though thousands of singers have been inspired by him, there is only one Geoff Tate. What a great addition to the Avantasia family. I can‘t wait to travel around the globe with Geoff and the team in a couple of days.”
Avantasia issued eighth full-length studio album Moonglow on February 15th, 2019 through Nuclear Blast Records.
Tobias Sammet commented: “It’s alive! After more than two years of hard work – and what felt like 71 overnight shifts back to back recently – we’re ready to unleash Moonglow upon the universe. I believe it’s the most adorned and detailed album we’ve ever produced. Not over-ambitious, but there is a lot of love for detail in there. Avantasia is the ultimate playground for a musician’s wildest fantasies to come true: Celtic elements, world music elements, big choirs, atmospheric stuff, amazing guest vocal performances and, of course, all that wrapped up in what I consider to be the typical Avantasia sound.
“Someone in the music business just told me that the embellished nature of the sound makes it hard to market it, [that] it doesn’t fit in the contemporary musical landscape, and ‘if you take a look around, no one really sounds like that.’ Exactly! Thank you!”
Moonglow includes guest appearances from the following: Ronnie Atkins (Pretty Maids), Jørn Lande (Masterplan), Eric Martin (Mr. Big), Geoff Tate (Queensrÿche), Michael Kiske (Helloween,Bob Catley (Magnum), Candice Night (Blackmore’s Night), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) and Mille Petrozza (Kreator).
Cover artwork duties fell to Alexander Jansson.
