DARKNESS: German Thrash Metal Group Reforms
September 2013
|
German thrash metal group Darkness’ reformation surfaced in September 2013, with the line-up featuring original members Andreas “Lacky” Lackaw (drums) and Arnd Klink (vocals / ex-guitars), alongside guitarists Bony Fertigmensch and Meik Heitkamp, and bassist Christian “Speesy” Giesler of fellow German thrashers Kreator.
Darkness issued three full-length albums during the late 1980s, namely Death Squad (1987), Defenders Of Justice (1988) and Conclusion & Revival (1989), the ensemble disbanding following a European tour alongside Mucky Pup. Lackaw and Klink would later form Eure Erben in 2004, a thrash metal band using German-spoken lyrics.
Death Squad’s 25th anniversary was commemorated by an appearance at the Endzeit Festival in Essen, Germany on December 14th, 2012, the show initiating Darkness’ eventual reformation. The platter was reissued by High Roller Records on blue and black vinyl, each copy including a lyric sheet as well as a poster.
