Former MOLLY HATCHET Drummer Bruce Crump Dies Aged 57

Bruce Crump, former drummer for Jacksonville, Florida-based southern rock group Molly Hatchet, died on March 16th, 2015 following complications from throat cancer. Crump was 57 years old, and had been diagnosed with throat cancer in August 2003.
Molly Hatchet issued the following statement through Facebook: “We are mourning the loss of a great friend and talented musician. This is a great loss to the Molly Hatchet family. Our prayers go out to all the family and friends of great friend Bruce. Rest in peace, Bruce. We will always love and remember you.”
Bruce Hull Crump, Jr. was born on July 17th, 1957 in Memphis, Tennessee. The sticksman joined Molly Hatchet in 1976, appearing on platinum albums Molly Hatchet (1978), Flirtin’ With Disaster (1979) and Beatin’ The Odds (1980), as well as later, less successful records Take No Prisoners (1981), The Deed Is Done (1984) and Lighting Strikes Twice (1989). Crump’s original tenure lasted from 1976 until 1983, the late drummer resuming duties from 1984 until 1990.
During the early 80s, Crump played with Canadian rock band Streetheart and appeared on their 1983 live recording Live After Dark. He also co-founded the Molly Hatchet spin-off group Gator Country in 2005.
At the time of his death Crump was a member of Jacksonville, Florida-based rock bands White Rhino and the newly reformed China Sky, the later releasing comeback album China Sky II less than a month prior to the drummer’s passing.
