Mike Porcaro, former bassist for American rock group Toto, died at 12:04am PDT on March 15th, 2015 at the age of 59 following complications from motor neurone disease.
Younger brother and Toto keyboardist Steve Porcaro issued the following statement through Facebook: “Our brother Mike passed away peacefully in his sleep at 12:04 AM last night at home surrounded by his family. Rest in peace, my brother.”
Toto guitarist Steve Lukather shared the following words through Facebook, meanwhile: “My brother Mike Porcaro is now now at peace. I will miss him more than I could ever put into words. My deepest love to the family.”
Porcaro was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2010; a neurological condition, the disease is referred to in North America as ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) as well as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Toto reunited in 2010 to raise money for Porcaro as well as raise awareness about the disease.
Porcaro joined Toto’s ranks in 1982 following the departure of original bassist David Hungate, touring behind multi-platinum effort Toto IV. During his tenure, Porcaro lent his bass services to albums such as Isolation (1984), Fahrenheit (1986), Mindfields (1998) and Through The Looking Glass (2002).
