Joensuu, Finland-based melodic death metal group Insomnium issued seventh full-length studio album Winter’s Gate on September 23rd, 2016 through Century Media Records.
Winter’s Gate consists of one “epic” 40-minute track, the effort built around a short story of the same name (Finnish translation: ‘Talven Portti’). Written by vocalist and bassist Niilo Sevänen, the short story in question concerns a group of Vikings who set out to find a fabled island west of Ireland, despite a treacherous winter drawing near.
The story itself was issued in conjunction with the album as a book with translations in English, Finnish and German, the book additionally including illustrations by Teemu Tähkänen.
