IRON MAIDEN Release 16th Studio Album ‘The Book Of Souls’
September 4th, 2015

English heavy metal group Iron Maiden issued 16th full-length studio album The Book Of Souls worldwide on September 4th, 2015 through Parlophone Records (Sanctuary Copyrights / BMG in the USA).
The outing was recorded in late 2014 with longtime producer Kevin Shirley at Guillaume Tell Studios in Paris, France, where the band previously cut 2000 comeback opus Brave New World. Finishing touches were laid down in early 2015. Cover artwork duties fell to Mark Wilkinson.
Bassist Steve Harris contributed to seven of the tracks, six of them with Maiden’s guitarists (Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers) and one sole composition. Two tracks were written solely by vocalist Bruce Dickinson for the first time since 1984’s Powerslave, one of which (‘Empire Of The Clouds’) is the longest track Maiden has recorded two date.
Clocking in at 92 minutes, The Book Of Souls is a double-disc affair.
The track listing is as follows;
CD1
|
01. ‘If Eternity Should Fail’ (Dickinson)
02. ‘Speed Of Light’ (Smith / Dickinson)
03. ‘The Great Unknown’ (Smith / Harris)
04. ‘The Red And The Black’ (Harris)
05. ‘When The River Runs Deep’ (Smith / Harris)
06. ‘The Book Of Souls’ (Gers / Harris)
CD2
07. ‘Death Or Glory’ (Smith / Dickinson)
08. ‘Shadows Of The Valley’ (Gers / Harris)
09. ‘Tears Of A Clown’ (Smith / Harris)
10. ‘The Man Of Sorrows’ (Murray / Harris)
11. ‘Empire Of The Clouds’ (Dickinson)
Iron Maiden’s recording line-up was as follows;
Bruce Dickinson (vocals)
Dave Murray (guitar)
Adrian Smith (guitar)
Janick Gers (guitar)
Steve Harris (bass and keyboards)
Nicko McBrain (drums)
The Book Of Souls’ release was delayed so that Dickinson, who was given an all-clear from a tumour during mid-May 2015, would have time to recuperate sufficiently to participate in the album’s launch.
The effort was made available in the following formats; two-CD standard edition, limited edition two-CD deluxe hardbound book, triple heavyweight black vinyl, high res audio (24-bit mastered for iTunes and non-mastered for iTunes), and standard res audio (16 bit / 44.1 kHz).
Produced and directed by Llexi Leon with animation and visual effects by The Brewery Production Company, a music video was filmed for the track ‘Speed Of Light’, which can be viewed below.
Fifteenth studio record The Final Frontier was released in August 2010.
