American metal guitarist Ross “The Boss” Friedman, formerly of Manowar, has released an official lyric video for the track ‘Devil’s Day’, which can be viewed below.
Ross “The Boss” Friedman issued third full-length studio album By Blood Sworn on April 20th, 2018 through AFM Records.
The outing was produced by Dean Rispler at Cannon Found Soundation in Union City, New Jersey, with all of the recording line-up living locally to one another.
Friedman commented: “The main thing is that my band all live nearby me instead of in Germany. So, we were able to really work the tunes up. Mike LePond (bass, Symphony X) and I started going through riffs and tunes in July, worked up the tunes, and started forming them. It was a very satisfying process.”
The digipak CD version of By Blood Sworn includes reworked versions of three Manowar tracks (‘Each Dawn I Die’, ‘The Oath’ and ‘Hail And Kill’), Friedman feeling that the effort is old school in nature. “Actually, I know what direction the songwriting should go, and we go,” he stated. “As for my guitar playing, whatever the song needs, the songs get! The record is more old school, but with a fresh attack — the songs are not repetitive, and this record is also not a ‘drum-machine recording’ like most these days.”
Cover artwork duties fell to Stan W. Decker. “Marc (Lopes, vocals and keyboards) and I had this concept for the cover art by Stan W. Decker,” Friedman begins. “It was a knight kneeling after battle — holding his mighty sword and my eagle behind him.”
