SOULFLY Release Ninth Full-Length Album ‘Savages’
September 30th, 2013

Phoenix, Arizona-based metal group Soulfly issued ninth full-length album Savages in the United Kingdom on September 30th, 2013 through Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The label also scheduled release in the rest of Europe as well as the United States on October 4th.

The outing was produced by Terry Date, who had previously mixed the Soulfly albums 3 (2002), Prophecy (2004) and Dark Ages (2005). Guest vocal appearances on Savages were supplied by Soulfly bassist Tony Campos (ex-Static-X), Clutch’s Neil Fallon, Napalm Death guitarist Mitch Harris, I Declare War’s Jamie Hanks, and Lody Kong’s Igor Cavalera – the son of Soulfly frontman Max Cavalera. Savages’ drum tracks were laid down by Zyon Cavalera, another of Max Cavalera’s sons.

Cover artwork duties were overseen by Paul Stottler.

The album was made available as a limited digipak edition CD, a 2LP vinyl and a digital download. Digipak and 2LP vinyl editions include the bonus tracks ‘Fuck Reality’ and ‘Soulfly IX’.

The track listing was as follows;

01. ‘Bloodshed’ (feat. Igor Cavalera)
02. ‘Cannibal Holocaust’
03. ‘Fallen’ (feat. Jamie Hanks)
04. ‘Ayatollah Of Rock ‘N’ Rolla’ (feat. Neil Fallon)
05. ‘Master Of Savagery’
06. ‘Spiral’
07. ‘This Is Violence’
08. ‘K.C.S.’ (feat. Mitch Harris)
09. ‘El Comegente’ (feat. Tony Campos)
10. ‘Captive Bolt Pistol’
11. ‘Soulfliktion’

An official lyric video was released for the song ‘Bloodshed’. According to Max Cavalera, the composition is “about the absurdity of the human condition in territories plagued by bloodshed all over the world.” Written in Portuguese and Spanish, ‘El Comegente’ concerns Venezuelan serial killer Dorangel Vargas, dubbed the “Hannibal Lecter Of The Andes”.

Savages marks the first Soulfly platter not to be released through Roadrunner Records, the ensemble’s first eight albums having been issued via the label. Eighth studio record Enslaved was released in March 2012, the last to be released through Roadrunner.
